The mountain railways of India represents a collective listing of the Darjeeling Himalyan Railway,the Nilgiri Mountain railway and the Kalka-Shimla Railway which is my personnal favourite and i would reccommend you guys also to use and enjoy its services.The Darjeeling Himalyan railway(1898),the Kalka Shimla Railway(1898) are located in the rugged hill regions of the Himalyas of Northern India and Milgiri Mountain Railway(1908)located in Udagamandalam,Tamilnadu.The'Nilgiri Passenger' train covers a distance of 26km,travels through 208 curves , 16 tunnels and across 250bridges.The railway relies on its fleet of steam locomotives.It was inscribed in the UNESCO in 2005.The darjeeling Himalyan Railway,also known as the "toy train" is a 2 ft narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling.The railway is about 78 kilometres long.Its elevation ;evel varies from about 100 metres at New Jalpaiguri to about 2200 metres at Darjeeling.Four modern disesel locomotives handle most of the scheduled services.It was inscribed in UNECSO in 1999.The Kalka-Shimla is a 2ft 6inch narrow gauge railway travelling along a mostly mounatneous route from Kalka to Shimla.At the same time of construction 107 tunnels and 864 bridges were built.It was inscribed in the UNESCO in 2008
