SUNDARBANS NATIONAL PARK
It is the largest estuarine mangrove forest in the world is a national park ,tiger reserve and a biosphere reserve located in the Sundarbans Ganges river delta bordering the Bey of Bengel , The Sundarbans as a whole encompasses 10,000 km2 of land and water , about 5980 km2 in India and the balance is in Bangladesh . It was inscribed in UNESCO in 1987.It got its name from one of the mangrove plants known as Sundari (Heritiera Minor). The Sundarbans are a part of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges , Brahmaputra and Meghna. It is part of the Sundarbans on the ganges delta , and adjacent to the Sundarban Reserve Forest in Bangladesh.The delta is densely covered mangrove forests,and is one of the largest reserves for the Bengal tiger.It is also home to a variety of birds,reptiles and invertebrate species,including the salt-eater crocodile.The present Sundurban National Park was declared as the core area of Sunurban Tiger Reserve in 1973 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1977.On 4 may it was declared a National Park.It was inscripted as UNESCO world heritage site in 1987.It is considered a world network of Biosphere Reserve in 2001.
