Humayun's Tomb id the tomb of the great Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi.The Tomb was built by Humayun's first Wife and chief consort,Empress Bega Begum in 1569-1570.At the centre of luxurious gardens with water channels,was the precursor monument to the Taj Mahal.Its architecture style has been acclaimed as the "necropolis of the Mughal dynasty"for its double domed elevation provided with Chhatris.The tomb is built with a charbagh(four gardens)layout with two gates,one on the south and other on the west.It has a number of water channels,a pavilion bath.The tomb set on an irregular octagonal plinth has a raised dome of 42.5m height,covered by marble slabs and decorated with chhatris.It was inscribed in 1993.The site was chosen on the banks of river yamuna river,due to its proximity to Nizamuddin Dargah,the mausoleum of the celebrated sufi saint of delhi,Nizamuddin Auliya who was much revered by the rulers of Delhi,and whose residence,Chilla Nizamuddin Auliya lies just north-east of the tomb.
