The Group of Monuments at Hampi are located on the banks of river Tungabhadra in Karnataka.It comprise the small beautiful Hampi Town.Hampi subsumes the ruins of Vijayanagar,which was the formal capital of the powerful Vijayanagar Empire.Hampi is a very important Hindu religious centre,has many temples like,the Virupaksha Temple(different from Pattadakal's Virupaksha Temple)and severs other monuments.It was inscribed in the UNESCO in 1984.It is traditionally known as Pampakshetra of Kishkindha.Most of the structures at Hampi are constructed from local granite ,burnt bricks and lime mortar and the type architecture is called Vijayanagar architecture.Vijayanagar architecture is also known for its adoption of elements of Indo Islamic architecture.
