Ajanta Caves also known as Buddhist Caves are a beautiful piece of art in Aurangabad,Maharashtra.As a whole,there are 31 rock-cut cave monuments which are unique presentations of the religious art of Buddhism.The cave has paintings and rock cut sculptures.They are the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian art.They were built in two phases.The Ajanta caves constitute ancient monasteries and worship halls of different Bud hist traditions carved into a 250 feet wall of rock.The caves contain richly decorated paintings,frescoes which are reminiscent of the sigiriya paintings in Sri Lanka and sculptures.
