The khajuraho Group of Monuments is built by the Chandela dynasty which,under serenity of Gujaraprathiharas reached its glory.The ensemble of monuments that have survived belong to the Hindu and Jain religious practises with striking fusion of sculpture and architecture :the best example of this is the outstanding feature is seen in the kandariya temple dedicated to lord Shiva built by king Dhangadeva in 999.The khajuraho complex contained royal temples where commoners were not allowed entry.The temples were decorated with elaborately carved sculptures.Of the 85 temples built,only 22 temples have survived in an area of 6km2,which represents chandela period of the 10 century.It was inscribed in the UNESCO in 1982
